Every confirmed Modern Warfare 4 weapon by class with unlock levels, plus each Apex Attachment and what it actually changes.
All 33 MW4 Weapons and Apex Attachments
Modern Warfare 4 launches with 33 weapons: 24 primary, 8 secondary and 1 melee. Activision has revealed 22 of them in detail, including unlock ranks, weapon levels and each one's Apex Attachment, and 22 were playable in the Open Beta. The remaining 11 have not been named, so anything claiming a full launch list is guessing at those entries. The official MW4 product page and the Steam store listing are where the rest will show up first.
- 33 weapons at launch: 24 primary, 8 secondary, 1 melee. 22 revealed so far.
- 28 Apex Attachments, plus more than 500 standard attachments.
- Also at launch: 9 tacticals, 11 lethals, 11 field upgrades, 17 killstreaks and 18 perks.
- Most weapons launch with their own Apex Attachment, and some have two.

Two caveats the official guide states outright. The Axion and the Sang 9mm are only obtainable through a starter Default Loadout class and have no Gunsmith or Apex Attachment access, and the WZ.55 Striga appears only during a campaign mission. The Guide also lists the Mojave .357 revolver as an Apex example, with an Outlaw single-action hammer for rapid hip fire.
How the Other 11 Weapons Fit In
24 primary, 8 secondary and 1 melee means the revealed 22 cover all but 11 slots. The official material has never named them, and neither has the Open Beta, so the honest answer for anyone hunting a complete list is that the missing entries are unannounced. What you can plan around is the class structure.
- Six assault rifles are revealed, so most of the primary shortfall sits in other classes.
- Secondary weapons are 8 slots and only 3 pistols plus 1 launcher have been confirmed, leaving 4 unannounced secondaries.
- The melee slot is the Combat Knife, and it is the only one.
Weapon unlocks are tied to player rank, and progression is deliberately less repetitive than earlier games: unlock an attachment once and it is shared across your whole arsenal rather than grinding it per weapon. The Create-a-Class guide covers how that changes loadout building.

Apex Attachments: What Makes Them Different
An Apex Attachment is the final reward for fully levelling a weapon, and it behaves nothing like a normal attachment.
- It is equipped separately and does not consume one of your Gunsmith attachment slots.
- It changes how a weapon works rather than nudging a stat, which is why the descriptions talk about conversions and systems instead of percentages.
- Every supported weapon has its own, and a few platforms get two.
- You cannot buy or shortcut one. You level the weapon.
The practical consequences are visible in the list above. The M4 becomes a top-fed 5.7x28 weapon closer to an SMG than a rifle, the Kastov 762 gains a radio-frequency jammer that disrupts enemy killstreaks and equipment, the Karit P68 turns into a knife with extra lunge, and the Signal .50 loads incendiary rounds that hit vehicles and streaks harder. Some of those are straight upgrades and some are genuine trade-offs, and the full breakdown lives in the Apex Attachments guide.
Gunny, short for Gunnery Sergeant, is a build recommender inside Create-a-Class that assembles a workable setup from the attachments you have already unlocked, cycling through short-range, balanced and long-range roles. It is optional and every build it makes can be edited afterwards, but it is the fastest way to get a functional weapon in the first week. See best weapons and loadouts.
Attachment Slots and Weapon Condition
Standard Gunsmith categories run across optics, lasers, barrels, muzzles, underbarrels, stocks, rear grips, ammunition and magazines, and the akimbo, canted and launcher options sit inside those categories rather than beside them. In DMZ there is one more rule worth knowing: the FOB Gunsmith lets you add up to five attachments plus an Apex Attachment, and eight-attachment weapons have been found inside Hajin. Rifles pulled off the ground there also come with damaged optics and improvised repairs, so condition is part of the loadout maths in that mode.
Weapon levels in the table above are the maximum for that platform, and they are the number that decides when the Apex Attachment unlocks. Snipers and marksman rifles sit at the top of the range, which is not a coincidence: they take the longest to finish, and they get the most dramatic Apex conversions in exchange.
Activision has not published damage, rate of fire or recoil values for any Modern Warfare 4 weapon, and the Open Beta builds are not the launch builds. Any table claiming exact stats before launch is guesswork, which is why this page sticks to what is documented.
FAQ
How many weapons does Modern Warfare 4 have?
33 at launch: 24 primary, 8 secondary and 1 melee weapon. 22 have been revealed in detail; the other 11 are unannounced.
What is an Apex Attachment in MW4?
A weapon-specific upgrade unlocked by fully levelling that weapon. It is fitted separately, does not use an attachment slot, and changes how the weapon behaves rather than adding a stat bonus.
How do you unlock the M4 in MW4?
The M4 unlocks at player rank 9, and its Apex Attachment, the M4 Hurricane, unlocks at weapon level 68.
Which MW4 weapons have two Apex Attachments?
The Hyeon Burst has Hyeon Auto and Hyeon Hyperburst, and the Kastov 762 has Kastov 545 and Kastov ARC. Most supported weapons have one.
Do all MW4 weapons have Apex Attachments?
No. Launchers and the Combat Knife have no Gunsmith and no Apex Attachment, and the Axion, Sang 9mm and WZ.55 Striga are also excluded because of how they are obtained.
