All 12 Modern Warfare 4 core 6v6 launch maps with their locations, layouts and the official tips for each battleground.
All 12 MW4 Multiplayer Maps at Launch
Modern Warfare 4 ships with 12 all-new core 6v6 maps on day one, each set in a different part of the world and each with its own insignia and visual identity. Six of them were playable in the Open Beta, Ground War runs separate large-scale maps inside the Hajin region, and Gunfight lives on the reconfiguring Kill Block facility.
- 12 core 6v6 maps at launch, all new, spread across Korea, France, Mexico, India, the United States and a Soviet-era industrial site.
- Six were playable in the beta: Cachette, Lithium, Lotus, Rooftops, Silkworm and Transit 213.
- Ground War uses two purpose-built Combat Outpost maps, also set in Hajin: Imjin Farmlands and Wolves Stadium.
- Kill Block is a separate modular facility rather than a fixed map, and it hosts Gunfight.

The 12 Core 6v6 Launch Maps
| Map | Setting | What defines it |
|---|---|---|
| Cachette | French rail terminal | A hidden armory in an abandoned wine warehouse and derelict garage, with containers, rooftops and tight interiors |
| Coal | Remote mountains, ex-Soviet | A disused coal processing plant with a fallen smokestack, ore chutes and a slurry-fed river |
| Lithium | Rural Mexico | A lithium refinery turned active combat zone, with interactive garage doors and strong mid-range lanes |
| Lotus | Korean fishing village | Post-amphibious-assault streets with burnt buildings, market, hostel and boathouse interiors |
| Mumbai | Dense Indian residential district | A fugitive's hideout around a Victorian market, with a rail line cutting through packed blocks |
| Munition | North Korean command facility | A live munitions depot with monitoring rooms, a skybridge, crane, water tower and hangars |
| Nautical | South Korean ferry at dawn | Decks littered with debris and fires burning across the starboard side and bow |
| Reactor U92 | Korean reactor complex | Arcing electrical damage in a concave command room, with a boiling containment pool at the centre |
| Rooftops | Snowy New York rooftop | Hotel Times West: greenhouse, HVAC platforms, boiler room, patio, skylights and pigeon coop |
| Sentry | North Korean military base | A whiteout assault across a maintenance garage, generator room, substation and half-destroyed barracks |
| Silkworm | South Korean shopping district | Alley access around perimeter apartments, centred on a convenience store, gaming den and subway entrance |
| Transit 213 | Western India bus depot | An overgrown central parking lot packed with rusting buses, flanked by a repair shop and gas station |
Every map has its own tactical identity rather than a remixed layout, and Activision says several of them explore regions from the campaign through entirely new Multiplayer spaces. That is why Mumbai, Nautical, Reactor U92 and Sentry read like campaign locations even though you have never played them as multiplayer maps before. For the wider shape of the launch package, the official product page and the MW4 blog index collect the reveals in one place.
The Six Beta Maps and What Each One Teaches
If you played the Open Beta you already know half the launch pool. The official guide gives a tip for each of the six, and they are worth keeping because the same lessons apply at launch.
Cachette. Fights move between the Backlot, Central Containers and Front Gate, and the middle of the map is vertical. Climbing the containers and rooftops gives an expanded view with quick access into the Armory and Lounge. Inside, close-quarters rooms like the Garage, Armory and Server Room are where the 3D printed Zip Gun earns its keep.
Lithium. Mid-range sightlines dominate, which makes it the friendliest map for assault rifles, LMGs and marksman rifles. Two things to use: the buttons beside the garage doors toggle them partly shut, leaving just enough room to slide underneath, and the camouflaged truck parked on the eastern road has a usable cargo bed for a vantage point over the Runoff Area and Refinery.
Lotus. A tight Korean village with a main thoroughfare that opens into long sightlines, so it punishes single-range loadouts. The Overkill perk lets you carry two primaries, which is the honest answer to Lotus: one gun for the street, one for the fish market and boathouse. There is also a pipe outside the Boathouse that climbs to the lower roof and second floor, and water you can dive into when a fight turns.

Rooftops. The snow-covered rooftops of Hotel Times West reward precision movement. Drop down to the Catwalk on the east side of Construction for ambushes, get behind the Patio counter for a protected view over the Construction zone, and note that the sky is unusually clear overhead, which makes a launcher genuinely useful against UAVs.
Silkworm. Almost entirely ground-level, with minimal vantage points and fast, face-to-face skirmishes. Main Street is lined with clustered vehicles you can set on fire by damaging the engine, so frag grenades, launchers and LMGs all create chain reactions. The Game Room and the area around the Convenience Store and Warehouse are the tightest fighting.
Transit 213. A small map where equipment has outsized value: frags to clear buses, smoke to move, a Trophy System to hold. The Center Lot buses give cover and concealment but are easy to rush and a magnet for grenades, so do not linger near the windows.
Cachette, Silkworm and Transit 213 are close-quarters maps where handling speed beats raw damage, while Lithium, Coal and Nautical reward optics and mid-range builds. If you only have time to learn three maps, pick one of each type and read the best weapons and loadouts guide for the matching setup.
Ground War, Kill Block and the Gunfight Maps
Ground War does not reuse the 12 core maps. Combat Outpost runs on two purpose-built large maps set inside Hajin: Imjin Farmlands, a flat floodplain of rice fields, waterways and scattered farms dominated by a rice mill, and Wolves Stadium, a ruined stadium district with an amphitheatre and dense downtown blocks. Both mix infantry and vehicles, and both are covered in the Combat Outpost ground war guide.
Kill Block is the third piece. It is not a fixed map at all: it is the West Bridge Advanced Military Training Facility, where three modular Slabs are craned into a new arrangement between matches, producing more than 500 possible configurations. Gunfight plays there in 3v3 and 10v10. The Kill Block guide covers the Slab system, the weather simulation and how the rotations work.
Pre-launch map listings also name four dedicated Gunfight small maps alongside Kill Block, all short-range arenas built for the mode's single-life rounds, with classic small maps like Shipment arriving in the October update. Those listing names come from pre-launch data rather than an official reveal, so treat them as subject to change until Activision publishes the playlist.
How the Map Pool Fits the Mode List
Worth remembering when you pick a favourite: the launch playlist spreads these 12 maps across respawn modes, one-life modes and party modes. Search and Destroy, Gunfight and the new Collateral press different parts of the same map than Team Deathmatch or Hardpoint do, and Kill Confirmed turns every sightline into a Dog Tag pickup fight. The full modes list explains each one, and the Gunfight guide walks through the round structure on Kill Block.
Activision's own note on the launch map list says the information and assets were still in development when it was published. Slab names on Kill Block are flagged the same way.
FAQ
How many maps does Modern Warfare 4 launch with?
Twelve new core 6v6 maps. Ground War additionally has two purpose-built maps, Imjin Farmlands and Wolves Stadium, and Gunfight runs on the modular Kill Block facility.
Which MW4 maps were in the beta?
Six: Cachette, Lithium, Lotus, Rooftops, Silkworm and Transit 213. The other six are Coal, Mumbai, Munition, Nautical, Reactor U92 and Sentry.
Are any classic Call of Duty maps returning in MW4?
Not in the core 6v6 pool, which is all-new. Kill Block includes Slabs inspired by Crash, Storage Town and Shoot House, and pre-launch listings point to Shipment arriving in the October update.
What is the smallest MW4 map?
Transit 213 is the tightest of the launch set, built around a parking lot of derelict buses. Cachette and Silkworm are also close-quarters maps by design.
